In this month-long wheel workshop, students learn the basics of how to safely set up and use a pottery wheel; how to center and throw small and functional bowls and vases, and how to share a community pottery studio. Projects include bowls, spoon rests and trinket dishes. Students who return for multiple months may also begin to learn and practice vases, mugs, and candle sticks. Students will also gain practice with trimming their work, creating and adding handles, and other decorative and functional elements such as sgraffito, carving and glazing. All clay, firing, equipment and instruction included. Snag one of these stools for the tweens and kids in your life that can’t stop watching TikTok videos about pottery. Week 1 : Basic orientation to the wheel set up and clean up, community studio standards, safety and centering. In this first workshop we will create a trinket dish or spoon rest, depending on student choice. Week 2: Throwing bowls, trimming first week’s pottery Week 3: Continue throwing bowls. Students will also trim last week’s pottery, glazing pottery made in first two sessions Week 4: Trimming final projects, applying underglaze and practicing sgraffito designs on final bowls. Pottery is finished and ready to pick up any day after Feb. 7. As all glazing and underglaze is completed as part of this workshop, there is no need to schedule additional days to glaze. Because the workshop size is so small, students receive significant 1:1 attention with the instructor, and may be given the opportunity to learn to throw other projects if they demonstrate they are ready. After-School Wheel Workshop Wednesdays 3:30-5:15pm 5 seats $249 Ages 10+ 5 seats available each month
