Mossery Mixed Media Sketchbook Review - the paper kind
Today I am going to share a review of the Mossery mixed media sketchbook. I bought this at the same time I bought my notebook from Mossery and had to share a review because I love this sketchbook so much. You may have thought I had a problem when it comes to collecting notebooks. What you probably don’t realise is that I have an even bigger problem when it comes to collecting sketchbooks. I use sketchbooks all the time meaning I go through them pretty quick. I think this is the eleventh sketchbook I’ve bought in the last year. MOSSERY MIXED MEDIA SKETCHBOOK Mossery is a company based in Kuala Lumpur. They make a range of customizable notebooks and sketchbooks. Along with a number of other accessories. You can choose from a range of cover designs along with having your name embossed on the front. You can get this at no extra charge though I usually don’t have anything on the cover as I prefer to add stickers instead. When customising your book you can choose what kind of paper you want inside. Either notebook or mixed media paper. The front of the sketchbook has the same pages as the notebook. With space to add your name and contact details. Then there is a number of pages when you can brainstorm your goals and aims for the sketchbook. I thought this was an interesting thing to have in a notebook but I really love this in the sketchbook version. You can decide what areas you want to improve in your sketchbook and add them at the from so you don’t forget. The sketchbook also has ring-binding which I really like. I know I said I hated ring bound notebooks but I’m totally fine with ring-bound sketchbooks. I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe I have a different mindset when using the sketchbook. You can buy plastic covers to go over the sketchbooks. However, they prevent you from folding the sketchbook back on itself. This is something to consider if you’re thinking about buying one. I’ve found the covers can stand up to a lot of wear and tear so you may not need additional protection. THE PAPER The mixed media paper is the real reason why I bought this sketchbook. I’ve seen a number of rs review this sketchbook and the one thing they all agree on is how good the paper quality is. Mossery uses a 224gsm rough paper, the texture on the back is slightly different to the front. This didn’t really bother me but it could annoy someone else. I’ve been mainly using this sketchbook for urban sketching which means I’ve been using lots of watercolour paint in it. Warping is to be expected when using wet media but in this, it’s hardly noticeable. I can still paint on both sides of the page with the slight amount of warping that has happened. Which is much better than some other brands I’ve tried. Not to point fingers or anything but don’t buy Daler Rowney watercolour paper. FINALLY I really like this sketchbook. I think at $24.50 this is really good value for money. You get 38 sheets of mixed media paper which can handle large amounts of water. Even when adding in the price of shipping this sketchbook is a really good option to consider if you’re looking to buy a new sketchbook. Especially if you work with wet media as watercolour sketchbooks can get pretty pricey.
