SOLD For sale is this midge bobbin-holder made by the late Frank Matarelli. Matarelli's bobbin holders and whip finishers have long been considered the standard for fly-tying tools. These haven't been available for years, and have become quite desirable on the resale market. This tiny midge bobbin is the rarest and regularly lists on for $145+. The midge bobbin holder was created to handle the small spools of Pearsall's Gossamer Silk. For comparison, I've included a photo of the midge bobbin loaded with Pearsall's, alongside a standard-size Matarelli and thread spool. (The standard-size bobbin holder is NOT for sale -- you'll have to pry my other Matarelli tools from my cold, dead fingers.) You'll notice it has the trademark FM stamped on one of the buttons. It is in excellent condition -- there's some peeling of the lacquer on the brass buttons due to age, but other than that I can detect no wear, including the mouth of the polished stainless-steel thread tube. Nor are the legs bent or splayed. I purchased this in the late '80s and probably tied a few dozen traditional wet flies with it. I'll throw in a couple of standard sewing-machine bobbins so you can roll your own. $85 plus $5 shipping to the continental U.S., to be sent by USPS with tracking provided.
