Osa Atoe creates handmade pottery at her home studio in Sarasota, inspired by the natural landscape of Florida and her Nigerian heritage. She uses red stoneware clay as well as wild clay from Florida to create her unique vessels.
This workshop is for beginners who would like to work with clay from home but don’t know where to start. There are three payment tiers to choose from ranging from $10-40. Please choose whichever tier works best for your budget. Ceramics used to be a free creative medium but has become an expensive hobby. In this workshop, I will explain exactly how to take advantage of the therapeutic benefits of working with clay, but at minimal cost. In the first half of the workshop, we will cover where to get clay and what kind to get, creating a workspace in your home (all you need is a table or counter), safety, basic handbuilding methods, handmade tools vs. commercial tools, surface decoration options, glazing, firing options and much more. In the second half of the workshop, I will demonstrate simple handbuilding methods to get you started making pots you can use. I will make as much time for questions as possible keeping in mind that there is a lot of information to get through. The workshop will be conducted via Google Meet on Saturday, February 10 at 1pm Eastern/10am Pacific. You will be sent a link via email after you purchase the class. We will meet for two to two and a half hours. If you cannot make that time, the workshop will be recorded and available on my website for 90 days following the workshop.
