A gorgeous assortment of approximately 65 individual feathers that were naturally shed by our free-ranging Salmon Faverolle rooster, Gaston. (Lot #300) You will receive the exact feathers pictured. This lot includes feathers shed from Gaston's tail and wings, most of them with a gorgeous beetle-green to purple iridescence. They range between 3 and 16 inches in length. Because they are naturally shed by a crowing, flapping rooster, some feathers may have minor imperfections. Carefully gathered from around the farm, they have been gently hand-washed in eco-friendly soap and fluff dried for maximum quality. No dyes, bleach or chemicals are used on our feathers, ever. Brought to you 100% by Mother Nature! These feathers would be perfect for hats and costumes, but would also be great in smudge fans, dream catchers, masks, wreaths, mobiles, hair pieces and much more. Your purchase will help support our efforts to preserve these endangered heritage breeds! The Salmon Faverolle is a heritage chicken breed that originated in France during the late 1800's. Medium sized and beautifully marked with feathering on their legs, toes and chin, they are a hardy breed that lays well (especially in winter), and will hatch their own eggs. Exceptionally gentle and good-natured, Faverolles are a great addition to the backyard family flock. Our chickens spend their days happily free-ranging on our farm eating bugs, sun bathing, and doing everything a chicken loves to do. Birds naturally lose their feathers twice a year in a process known as molting. Feathers are an amazing insulating and waterproof layer that are maintained through meticulous preening and bathing. Despite all that care feathers do wear out and the birds replace them over the course of a couple of weeks. Our birds have access to wide open spaces and bathing areas (dust for chickens & guineas and a spring-fed creek for the waterfowl), in addition to a high protein diet supplemented by organic pasture and plenty of insects. These management practices help ensure maximum health, which is reflected in their feathers! On our farm we are dedicated to working in harmony with nature, providing a safe and healthy habitat not only for our domestic animals, but for the wildlife as well. We never use any pesticides, and have dedicated a vast majority of our property as a sanctuary for wildlife.
