While Alan was taking pottery classes at the University of Hawaii in the 1970s he made many Ikebana vases and fell in love with the concept.. Later he made this variation he sometimes refers to as the EAST TENNESSEE, REDNECK, HILLBILLY VERSION OF A JAPANESE IKEBANA FLOWER VASE.
