Artificial sinew is a fabulous thread used for many different crafts. Dreamcatchers, fly-tying, basketry, native American regalia, all sorts of crafters love this stuff. It is waxed polypropylene. Yes, it is US-made. traditionally these bolts are 4 oz, approx. 136 yards Just found some 1 oz bolts for students, approx. 100 feet (PLEASE NOTE these are a few years old, and will NOT match the current 4 oz bolts in dye lot!) This is a special reduced price and they will not be restocked. The thread is 40 lb test, splits into 3 strands This sinew might stain leather, please use care and make tests when leather stitching! Comes in a rainbow of colors. Please note that computer monitors/phones/tablets vary a great deal in the way they show colors. Colors may differ from what you see on your screen. There is variation in color mixing, each lot varies somewhat. It is recommended that you buy all the thread you think you will need for one project all at one time, to assure you receive the same lot of color! Please note that "earth tones" are obviously made by putting black +another color in the machine that extrudes these threads. Earth Tone Red is sort of a "brick" color, the Earth Tone Orange is kind of Burnt Orange, the Earth Tone Blue is sort of navy, but other times sort of dark teal, the Earth Tone Yellow is kind of ochre. There is just no telling what will be on that bolt. I do not make this thread, i just resell it, so I DO NOT MAKE GUARANTEES OF COLOR!!!!! When you see a "different "color, you need to purchase it while i have it, because you never know if i will have it again..its great if you have a very artsy or rustic basket. The "red orange" color is an example of one of those times when the color is not consistent. It was probably supposed to be red, but is in between the red and the orange, so i am offering it as a separate color. Don't count on me having it when you return for more, or even on each bolt of red/orange being the same, they vary a little. Enjoy having a slightly different color while you can! This particular sinew is VERY waxy. The wax is synthetic, and is very soft and waxy. This makes it super easy to split and reunite the 2 sections it is made of (as demonstrated in the video.) For ease of splitting, start somewhere in the MIDDLE of the strand, don't try to split from the end! The wax also makes it great for coiling. If it is TOO waxy, either scrape off some wax with something blunt, like your fingernails, a credit card, or the spine of a knifeif you save the excess wax, it it great for conditioning other threads. Alternatively, if you overwax with pure beeswax, the two waxes appear to combine and make what i consider a perfect condition. If excess wax accumulates on a pine needle basket as you work, this is not a problem. Smear the wax into the basket, for added conditioning, or wait until the basket is finished, and point a hot hairdryer at it, to melt into the basket. Please be aware that this kind of synthetic wax can change the color of leather and other fabrics! (make what looks like an oily stain.) Also, because this is a waxed thread, if it is left in a hot place (like a black metal mailbox in the sun,) the wax will melt.
