%26Acirc%3B%26nbsp%3B%20Postal%20Note%20Stamps%26Acirc%3B%26nbsp%3B%20%20On%20March%2031%2C%201951%2C%20Postal%20Note%20stamps%20were%20discontinued%20after%20just%20six%20years%20of%20use.%20%20Postal%20Note%20stamps%20were%20first%20introduced%20on%20February%201%2C%201945.%20They%20were%20used%20in%20a%20similar%20manner%20to%20money%20orders%20to%20send%20smaller%20amounts%20of%20money%20to%20anyone%20in%20the%20mainland%20Unites%20States.%20%20Postal%20Note%20stamps%20allowed%20people%20send%20smaller%20amounts%20of%20money%20(up%20to%20%2410)%20at%20a%20lower%20cost%20than%20money%20orders.%20The%20cost%20to%20send%20a%20smaller-valued%20money%20order%20was%20relatively%20high%2C%20so%20postal%20notes%20gave%20customers%20a%20cheaper%20option.%20%20Plus%2C%20postal%20notes%20were%20popular%20with%20postal%20clerks%20because%20they%20meant%20less%20paperwork.%20When%20a%20customer%20brought%20in%20a%20postal%20note%2C%20the%20clerks%20only%20had%20to%20affix%20the%20stamps%20to%20a%20postal%20note%20card%20and%20cancel%20them.%20The%20customers%20filled%20out%20the%20paperwork%2C%20saving%20the%20clerks%20time%20and%20effort.%20Postal%20notes%20were%20made%20up%20of%20three%20parts.%20There%20was%20the%20payee%26acirc%3B%26%23128%3B%26%23153%3Bs%20coupon%20on%20the%20left%2C%20the%20paying%20office%20coupon%20in%20the%20middle%2C%20and%20the%20purchaser%26acirc%3B%26%23128%3B%26%23153%3Bs%20receipt%20on%20the%20right.%20The%20post%20office%20kept%20the%20middle%20portion%2C%20to%20which%20the%20stamp%20was%20affixed%2C%20as%20proof%20that%20the%20money%20had%20been%20paid.%20%20In%20all%2C%20the%20stamps%20came%20in%2018%20denominations%2C%20while%20the%20postal%20notes%20were%20printed%20in%2011%20denominations.%20People%20could%20use%20up%20to%20two%20stamps%20per%20note%20to%20pay%20between%201%26Acirc%3B%26cent%3B%20and%20%241.%20They%20could%20also%20insure%20their%20notes%20for%20a%20fee%20of%205%26Acirc%3B%26cent%3B.%20%20Postal%20Note%20stamps%20could%20only%20be%20used%20at%20specific%20post%20offices.%20The%20service%20was%20discontinued%20on%20March%2031%2C%201951.%20%20Postal%20Note%20stamps%20are%20different%20Postal%20Notes.%20Postal%20Notes%20were%20specialized%20money%20orders%20used%20between%201883%20and%201894.%20They%20allowed%20people%20to%20send%20%245%20to%20people%20in%20other%20cities%20for%20a%20fee%20of%203%26Acirc%3B%26cent%3B.%20An%20example%20of%20one%20of%20these%20is%20pictured%20above.
